3 Tips on Drying Out Your House After Water Damage

Drying out the water damage disaster is an easy task that every homeowner can do. You can get rid of the water and dry the house using equipment you already have. If you are willing to spare your time, all can be done within 1 day. The following are 3 tips on drying out your house after water damage.

3 TIPS ON DRYING OUT YOUR HOUSE AFTER WATER DAMAGE

1. Move Air Naturally
The easiest way to dry your house is by moving the air naturally. You just need to open your windows and let the air in. However, your room needs to have a big window to allow a lot of air to come in. The cabinet and closet doors and drawers should be opened to allow air circulation. The method does not work well in places that are extremely humid. The method works best when there is sun outside.

2. Use High Powered Fan
High powered fans can dry up your house within 2 – 3 days. You will need to put at least 3 fans to dry the area properly. The bigger the area, the more fans you need to put. The fans should be turned to the highest fan setting for speedy drying. There should be one or more fans in front of each damp spots. Using a low powered fan is not recommended as it can take longer than the recommended timeframe to dry up the house.

You can rent the fans from your local hardware store. Most of the time, the air conditioning will be damp even if it has not been submerged underwater. For this reason, they should not be used. Fans are not as efficient as dehumidifiers so you may want to consider using desiccants too. In the closet, you can place some desiccants to absorb the excess water vapor. Desiccants are available in the form of chemical dehumidifier packs and calcium chloride pellets.

3. Use a Dehumidifier
A dehumidifier can dry the flooded area more thoroughly. A dehumidifier works by sucking in the damp air in the room and removing its moisture before releasing it back to the room. The moisture will be collected in a drawer that is removable. Bigger dehumidifiers are more efficient and can remove a larger amount of water when operating for 24 hours. A big dehumidifier can extract 50 liters of water in one day.

However, a dehumidifier that can extract 28 liters of water per day is sufficient. Using a big dehumidifier is recommended if your house has been seriously flooded. At times like this, you don’t want to bother about how much electricity you have used. The doors and windows should be closed to allow the dehumidifier to work efficiently. You can purchase a dehumidifier at your local hardware store.
